A few makes and Merry Christmas

My entry to my Inside Crochet magazine challenge. A cheeky crochet star for my Christmas tree.

A dress for my granddaughter. The photo doesn't show it but it has sparkle in the yarn. There is still a ribbon to add. Hopefully she will feel like a princess in it.

Three elf stockings, a commission make for a work colleague for Christmas. I sold a similar one from my Folksy shop. I know it is small beginnings, but I have sold three items now, it means so much when strangers buy your work as family and friends could just be being kind. No offence to my supporters......

On piece of printed cotton I embellished with embroidery and then hand quilted. Added a backing fabric and festive fabric binding. I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out.

Merry Christmas to you all.

Just made it in time

Arrived home tonight to find my latest issue of Inside Crochet waiting for me. I cannot open until I've finished the challenge from issue 70, so out with the needle case to add the lining and zip.

And finished

Photo uploaded onto Pinterest. Not sure if this will work but try this a link. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/457115430907369957/

Being creative

LI've used up the last of my fleecy felt fabric making a final three snowmen.

I've had great fun making them.

At Yarndale this year I treated myself to Edward's Menagerie, a book of really cute crochet animals designed by Kerry Lord from Toft. I have started by making Emma the Elephant. There are 40 designs, I wonder if I can make them all!

Yesterday I attended a days workshop held by the Quilters Guild (I'm not a member but my friend Lisa is). It was a lovely day, I met a group of great ladies, and had a fantastic home cooked meal. Mince pies and mulled wine kept appearing throughout the day too. I was made to feel very welcome and my trusty Benina sewing machine, which was a 21st birthday present (have I given away my age now) from my parents got a few compliments of her own. She is very heavy compared to the modern machines, but hopefully she will see me out. Does anyone else own a Benina Nova?

I made this Holly Sprite. I know it's not a quilt, but I could have made a quilted table mat. He has quite a puzzled face.

I learnt that sewing the layers together with some wadding (the sandwich was wadding at the bottom, with the fabric right sides together on top) produces a smooth look once stuffed.

Craft Room Update and getting mojo back

Before I continue, first let me apologise for the quality of the photographs, I take with my iPad and unless there is plenty of daylight they are a bit grainy. I have been waiting for the sun but it only seems to appear when I am at work.

But this is my craft room all tidied up and painted. Still plenty to do to make it cosy, such as a cushion for my chair and curtains. I have a coffee bean sack as a rug and a chair rescued from a skip.

I found this cute trolley table in a local charity shop.

And a small Hand made mini shelf, drawer object in a collectables shop in Appleby. I might try shabby chic'ing it.

I made these snowmen this week.

And my Christmas cacti is providing an amazing display.

Yarndale, Inside Crochet Challenge Halloween makes

It's been quite a while, but now I'm back to blogging again. Not sure why, perhaps it the change in the seasons....

What have I been up to...

I have decided to turn one of my outbuildings into an art studio. Just some form of heating to set up and then I can experiment with all sorts of media without worrying about spills and splodges.

Here are a couple of before photos

What a mess!

Cobwebs like you wouldn't believe...

Had a fun time at Yarndale last month. Soz no photos but whilst there, along with a friend, we signed up for a years subscription to Inside Crochet magazine. We then decided to challenge ourselves to make something from the magazine before the next issue arrived.

Phew, just made it. I used embroidery floss instead of the thread suggested, and had no earring fixings, but I'm sure my granddaughter will like them.

We have set up a Pinterest page about our makes 'Inside Crochet Challenge' where we can 'pin' our efforts. Thinking about the purse before the next issue.

Well, it's great to be back.

Rugs and slippers, but no pipe ....

Jessie's Needle has been busy but has found time to:-

Start a proddy rug.

This was started after a visit to The Museum of Lakeland Life and Industry in Kendal where I met a lady who was demonstrating this craft and allowed me to give it a try. Brilliant museum, well worth a visit.    www.lakelandmuseum.org.uk

I have also started to make a pair of Ffaerie Slippers.

I'm a member of Appleby Textile Group, we meet once a month. This month we welcomed Lucinda Allwood who gave us a talk about gold work. At the workshop the next day I made one slipper and have enough supplies to make the other one.

Just have to find time to make the other one.

Finished a dress and a new WIP

Hello out there,

Too much work and not enough play over the past few months, however I've made a dress for my granddaughter.
Using New Look 6043,
Made from cerise cotton needle corduroy, and Broiderier Anglaise ruffle. I also found this pink and blue ric rac which matched perfectly.
An easy make and I have cut out the pieces in light denim to make another.

On the crochet front I have been given a copy of Needlecraft Practical Journal from the early 1900's
and have decided to give one of the patterns in fillet crochet a go.
Instructions were a bit complicated to start with, but I'm about half way through.
